Chris O’Halloran

Practice Coordinator

Chris O’Halloran was raised in North Belfast; graduated in Psychology in 1975; studied youth and community work at the University of Ulster; took part in a pilot project in community development in West Belfast’s Suffolk estate in 1986 followed by similar projects in Milltown, Knockmore, Roden Street and Ballybeen; completed a Master’s degree in computer science at Queen’s University, Belfast and became, briefly, a freelance trainer in communication and negotiation skills.

Chris has worked for BIP since the inception of the organisation in 1995. Over that period Chris’s work was largely in the areas of a) enhancing and developing the knowledge base regarding Belfast’s interface areas; b) lobbying for change of practical benefit to interface communities; c) consulting, developing and supporting the membership of Belfast Interface Project, and d) providing support for interface communities in addressing issues related to interface conflict.

Chris took up his current post in April 2010.  As Practice Coordinator, Chris’s role is primarily to engage creatively with interface communities, statutory and strategic partners in developing new approaches to sharing and inclusion which meet the needs of interface communities and member groups, and to explore and develop the potential for similar work with communities outside of Belfast.
