Sense Over Sectarianism is Belfast Interface Project’s dedicated youth programme for young people aged 14–18 who live in communities close to an interface. The project brings young people from both Protestant/Unionist and Catholic/Nationalist backgrounds together to explore what sectarianism means to them today; in their streets, their schools, their friendships, and their everyday lives.
Through creative workshops, honest conversations, and shared experiences, participants explore themes of identity, belonging, and local issues that shape life in interface areas. The group then works together to imagine and design positive changes for their community, developing shared-future ideas that reflect their hopes rather than old divisions.
Sense Over Sectarianism gives young people the space, skills, and confidence to question inherited narratives, build new relationships, and take ownership of a more inclusive future. It is youth-led, community-focused, and grounded in the belief that young people are key to shaping long-term peace and positive change in Belfast’s interface areas.
This Project is Funded by The Excutive Office (TEO).
